Minutes from downtown, Hunter’s Nursery is the oldest continuously family-owned nursery in San Diego. Founder, Howard Hunter, moved to southern California from Seattle after retiring as a fireman/engineer on the Northern Pacific Railroad. Working part-time in a lemon-packing house, Howard decided to open a citrus orchard and nursery in Lemon Grove in 1919.
For over 70 years Betty Hunter was at the heart and soul of Hunter’s Nursery. Marrying into the family in 1941, she was involved in all aspects of the business. She lived to 103.
Today, Hunter’s Nursery continues their tradition of providing quality plants and products for home gardeners and landscape professionals.
